The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA) has once again teamed up to launch the Guyana Independence T20 Cup 2013 which is slated to be held on Sunday May 26, 2013 at the Albion Sports Complex beginning at 10:00 hrs. The final is expected to be played under floodlights.
The tournament, which was played last year for the first time, was an instant success with many of Guyana’s top players taking part. The organisers have promised an even more exciting tournament

The event will feature four top T20 teams in the country, two of which will be from Berbice and two from Demerara. The competition this year will also be played to mark a number of significant landmarks and achievement in the history of Guyana including the observation of Guyana‘s 47th Anniversary Independence Status. The 250th anniversary of the Berbice Slave Rebellion, which was led by Cuffy and the 175th anniversary of the arrival of the first batch of East Indian immigrants to Guyana, which occurred in Berbice.
The organisers have also earmarked a number of projects that will benefit from the venture which will include the overall assisting with the development of Sports in the Region, assist two first division clubs, two orphanages, two schools in Berbice and the rehabilitation of the Pavilion at Albion Sports Complex. The remainder will go towards the two organisations to assist in the social and community work plans under the Power to Change Programme.
There will be a formal mid-evening cultural opening ceremony which will also see a fireworks display during the night. The two semifinals will be played first with the winners clashing in the final. The event is also expected to form part of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce yearly events.
