Police Sports Club claimed the 2012\2013 Georgetown Cricket Association\ Noble House Seafoods 2nd division two day title after rain reduced play on day two at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground; 290 minutes were lost as play only started at 15:53 hrs.
According to the competition regulations which are likely to be revisited, Police Sports Club were awarded as victors by virtue of having more outright wins in the group stage of the tournament, despite GCC finishing with more points. After scoring 321 on day one, the host would have fancied their chances of at least gaining first innings points, but had to settle for second place in the tournament as Police safely negotiated 19 overs, although they were precariously placed at 39/4.
When Police began their reply Cleon Critchlow removed Ameer Mohamed for 1 in the third over with a smart catch behind the wicket by Martin Pestano-Belle. GCC should have had a second wicket shortly, but Manny Forde failed to hold on to an easy catch at mid off when Troy Benn attempted to loft Devon Lord. Despite a few hiccups, Benn and Pernell London were able to blunt the attack for 7 overs until Benn (11) edged Almando Doman to slip, where Treon Forde safely completed the catch to leave the score 27/2. That became 27/3 when semi final centurion Randolph Knight was bowled by Doman without scoring. Pernell London soon edged Lord behind for 18 at 35/4.
In fading light Sheldon Agard and Eric Angel safely negotiated 4 overs from Doman and Lord as Police closed on 39/4 in 19 overs. Doman finished with 2 for 9 from 6 overs, Lord 1 for 8 from 6 and Critchlow 1 for 12.
At the presentation ceremony former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd complemented the players for their performance throughout the match, and said that it was heartening to see the patience shown by the batsmen. Police’s Randolph Knights was awarded MVP of the tournament while Treon Forde was given the man-of-the-match prize for his first innings 86.
