The Course which was organised to enhance the coaching abilities of the participants and to improve the all-round standard of play heading into the commencement of the Digicel Schools Football Competition saw around 60 persons from nearly all the Regions participate in both theoretical and practical sessions over the period.
France, who recently attended a Course which was conducted by Chelsea FC in Trinidad and Tobago speaking at the closing ceremony, said he was extremely encouraged by the enthusiasm and commitment by the attendees despite the constraints of time.
“Despite the time constraints, due to the committed efforts of you the participants, we were still able to achieve a lot and I want to commend you and hope that what you’ve been able to learn during the period is taken back to your respective schools and communities so that when the Digicel Schools Tournament starts later this year, we will witness a higher standard of play,” France mentioned.
He said he hoped that the Course will serve a great purpose for the collective and individual pursuits of the participants’ ambitions which could then be of benefit to the sport.
The TDO told the gathering if Guyana is to produce great players then a more rigorous effort is required and called on the group to adhere to the principles that were taught during the sessions.
France said he was expecting nothing else but great things when the tournament starts.
He then expressed thanks to Digicel for affording him and the participants the opportunity to improve their knowledge of the game.
Digicel’s Customer Services Manager Sherwin Osborne in his remarks reminded all present of the Company’s commitment since the inception of the tournament which was to assist in the development of the sport.
“We are here for the long run to develop players and the programme and that is exactly what we are doing, trying to raise the standard of football here in Guyana,” Osborne said.
Among others present yesterday were Sponsorship & Events Manager Gavin Hope and Tournament Coordinator Lavern Fraser-Thomas.
All the participants were presented with Certificates.
