A Berbice man says he plans to approach the police to have his daughter’s body exhumed for a second post mortem.
Baljewan Singh’s daughter, Tharmattie Ramsaram, died on March 24 at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance at her Mahaica home.
Kaieteur News understands that a post mortem, performed by government pathologist Nehaul Singh, indicated that death was due to pesticide poisoning.
But Mr. Singh had expressed suspicion that his daughter, who suffered from seizures that had rendered her incapable of doing the simplest of chores, could not have poisoned herself.
He stated that after suggestions were made to him to have his daughter cremated, his attorney approached the High Court and was granted permission to have the cremation deferred “until a second and more thorough post mortem is done.”
But Mr. Singh claims that although the pathologist had twice turned up to conduct the post mortem, ranks from the Mahaica Police Station failed to show up.
And when his daughter’s remains began to deteriorate, the frustrated father said that he decided to bury her remains without having the second post mortem.
His daughter was laid to rest this week, but now Mr. Singh says that he still wants to know the truth about her demise.
