Power providers, Wartsila under its ‘energy, excitement and excellence’ theme has contributed to the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) National Youth and Junior Championships slated for April 20-21 at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Vice-President of the AAG Gavin Hope, who mobilised and received the support, said that Arron Fraser, Contracts Manager at Wartsila, continues to underline his passion for athletics.
Both Hope and Fraser are former national athletes from different eras.
“I am pleased with the contributions Wartsila have made and continues to make. We’re aware of Mr. Fraser’s passion for athletics and this contribution will allow us to see those athletes that ran at the just-concluded CARIFTA Games,” Hope indicated.
Guyana won six medals through the outstanding performances from its youth and junior athletes at the CARFITA Games in Bahamas. Those athletes are expected to compete next weekend with four of them already qualified for the World Youth Championships.
Linden’s Cassey George (800m, 1500m), Avon Samuels (400m), Jason Yaw (200m, 400m) and Tirana Mitchell (100m, 200m). However, the 14-year-old George and Samuels are under the 16-year old age requirement for the July 14-18 World Youth Championships in Ukraine.
In handing over the contribution, Fraser said that he and his company is delighted to continue to make a difference in sport locally. He said that his relationship with Hope will continue to yield such results for the development of the sport in Guyana.
“We are happy to contribute to sports on a whole and in this instance, athletics. My relationship with Gavin would continue to go a far way in terms of actual support. This go hand-in-hand with our anniversary month,” Fraser indicated at the simple presentation. (Edison Jefford)
