Residents of East Canje, Berbice, are peeved with police who they claim failed to properly investigate a drag-racing incident on the Adelphi Public Road that resulted in a three-car smash-up and damage to a resident’s property last Friday night.
They say that the three vehicles involved in the crash were being driven by three brothers who habitually drag-race on the East Canje Public Road.
No one was seriously injured but one of the cars ended up in the yard of a senior public service official, damaging his bridge, fence, shed and car.
However, residents claim that despite several calls, no traffic rank turned up at the scene until the following day.
It is understood that the driver of motor vehicle PLL 4757, in trying to overtake the others slammed into the back of another vehicle before ending up in a resident’s yard. The driver of the third drag-racing car then slammed into another car.
The East Canje road was recently resurfaced and some drivers, including some who are unlicensed, have been using the area for drag racing.
