A man who went on a thieving spree a few days after he was released from jail will spend the next 12 months in jail.
Herman Persaud, of St John Street, New Amsterdam, was on Tuesday sentenced to 12 months in jail by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court and was found guilty of larceny.
The court was told that on Thursday March 7, last, the known character entered the dwelling place of Mohamed Yashen and stole one garbage bin, 10 cases of bottles, one mopping bucket and five brooms .
In court the accused stated that he was sorry and begged the Magistrate for leniency.
However the court was told that the accused is a regular law breaker and has served several sentences for similar offences.
