National Scrabble Champion, Abigail McDonald has been out of the jurisdiction for a few weeks during which time top seed, James Krakowsky dominated the tournaments and twice relegated another top seed, Moen Gafoor to the second position.
McDonald returned with a bang and reclaimed the top spot when she outplayed all and sundry to take top honours when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) staged a similar tournament just one week ago.
The prolific word former will attempt to emulate that feat when the GASP stages the Phagwah Open tournament at the Malteenoes Sports Club tomorrow morning. Other top players that will vie for honours are Gafoor, Krakowsky, Leon Belony, Wayne Cave, Grace Hercules and Orlando Michael among others. Activities get underway with the registration period starting at 09:45hrs and ends at 10:00hrs when the tournament gets underway.
Those players arriving before the culmination of the registration period will pay a registration fee of $500, while those arriving afterwards will pay $200 more. Members with clocks and games are asked to ensure that those items are at the venue at least half an hour prior to the start of the tournament.
The first three finishers will receive lucrative prizes as well as the best person outside of the top ten ranking.
