Mar 17, 2013 Letters
Dear Editor,
A while back there was a letter or article in one of the newspapers under the caption : WHY COMPLAIN WHEN NOTHING WILL BE DONE.
Today this harsh reality is hitting home. There are two issues I would like to highlight one is now entering its third year.
I will begin with the most recent one – it is months now since construction started at a Supermarket on Sheriff Street, for whatever reason a pipe is being turned on every night and sometimes during the day and water is not only being wasted by the gallons but is causing severe discomfort to businesses located closest to that entity a restaurant included. Although I am aware that the drains need digging and most businesses are concreting their bridges that has nothing to do with it, it is not raining.
Reports were made both by phone and a personal visit to GWI as recent as Tuesday 12th March, 2013, yet this practice continues unabated.
On Tuesday 12th 2013 yesterday workers began putting sand around the area to make it look as if everything is normal yet water flooded the bridges of other businesses last night and evidence of the excess water is always there during the day, at nights it can be seen running from the same direction it always comes, the security in my opinion is the one detailed to carry out this distasteful act at nights he is very evasive when approached and tries to mislead when he knows exactly what is going on.
Right in front of the Supermarket on the bridge to the end of the road pipes underground at two different points can be located if the sand is removed and if not the only outlet those two points are sure outlets. I am hoping that something will be done to curb this inconsiderate, disgusting act swiftly.
Numerous letters to different offices seeking relief from the heavy bass from a Sheriff Street night club entering my place of residence every night since 2010 is all a waste of time, I am now forced to abandon my room and seek a place in a corner of the hall which is just a little less tormenting, having to put my mattress on the floor of tiles and close to the concrete wall to get some rest, my granddaughter a toddler always ends up with a stuffy nose whenever she has to sleep over. How can people function effectively when hours of rest are cruelly taken away from them, especially at weekends? The bass is a bit low on rare occasions but it never remains that way and recently on some days like Sunday afternoon one has to put up with it from as early as 17 hr, Saturday night parties never stops until around 4am on Sunday mornings, I wish to remind the authorities the law states that midnight is the cut off point for music, also noise is a serious health issue, our very young children are exposed to this atrocity night after night, my health is affected and as citizens of this country we deserve peace and comfort in our homes.
