There is no doubt that the opening clash today in today’s Milo / Petra Organisation Under-20 Schools Football Competition will be a riveting contest judging from earlier performances of the two teams.
However, if a serious pundit is to make a prediction then Richard Ishmael should be the likely pick since they’ve been one of the few teams to have performed consistently throughout the round robin and knockout phases.
The Woolford Avenue-based team has been impressive, but the same could be said about South Ruimveldt, especially following their lop-sided walloping of North Georgetown in their round of 16 clash which they won by an 8-1 margin.
In that game, Martin Adams netted a hat-trick and he should be buoyed by that performance and eager to exhibit his skills against a more formidable team. He received admirable support from the likes of Keith Caines, who booted in a brace, while Davis George, Shaquan Simon and Colin Peters complete a formidable strike force that could tear apart any defence seen in the tournament so far. Richard Ishmael’s search for victory will be spearheaded by the lethal Kristoff Watts, who has been a thorn in the sides of opposing teams, while players such as Ray Stanton, Orandy Roach and Ronald Dover stand ready to furnish the passes that will put him in a position to score.
The feature game between Tucville and Bishop’s High is a bit tricky to predict the outcome and this is despite the former being classified as one of the favourites to grab the coveted crown.
They have looked superior in every department compared with most of the other teams in the tournament, but it is because of this advantage that they’ve displayed a certain degree of cockiness and Bishop’s High have already demonstrated that they are a determined bunch and not a team to be taken lightly.
On paper and field Tucville seems far more proficient, but it is their over confidence that could be their worst enemy against a team that is stubborn and not easily phased by more technically skilled opponents.
Darwayne Filter, Shawn Hughes and Roland Mayers will be among a group of players ready to lead the charge for Tucville, while Shamel Lewis is the lone ranger up front for the Carmichael Street-based side.
It promises to be a test of skills versus determination and who will survive will be known today.
