The Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ phenomenon is about to return to the Linden community and acording to the Organisers it will take the town by storm.
In the streets, in the homes and at every corner where people meet to have a conversation, the buzz is “Greatest of the streets”.
Much excitement and a huge display of a high level of skill is anticipated as Lindeners can see the way how each team is serious about taking the bigger share from prize money in excess of $1.2 million. Most of the Linden tarmacs are populated by teams going through their paces of practice sessions every afternoon in preparation for the kickoff which is set for March 24.
A total of 32 teams have already registered to participate in the competition and all of them were taken from the wards of Linden.
The teams are as follows: Amelia’s Ward- TLC shippings Russians, South stars, Rough and Rugged, Speight Land United, Central Mckenzie: Team 25, Ripping Bullets, Retrieve Unknowns, Barsenal, Coomacka United, Exodus, Constab, The Amazing, High Stars, Star Boys, Silver Bullets, Classic Six, Pokerburg, Blueberry Hill, Cherokee Park, Hard knocks, Eagles, Attackers, Trainline Warriors, Wisroc, Goal Getters, Half Mile/One Mile, Wismar Housing Scheme.
Cash prizes will be distributed as follows: 1st place $600,000, 2nd place $300,000,3rd place $150,000 and 4th place $100,000.
The games will be played in a safe environment under the watchful eyes of the Guyana Police Force.
The tournament is scheduled to run for ten nights, beginning from March 24th, and ending on May 1st at the following venues, Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward Bus Park, Silvercity Hard Court and New Silvercity School Hard Court.
All games are scheduled to begin at 18:00 hrs on each playing day.
The tournament is divided into 2 segments the round robin phase in which, the 32 teams are being placed into 8 groups where the two teams to emerge with the most points moving on to the knockout segment.
Spectators can expect a lot of giveaways on every playing night, along with nail biting games, excitement and a high level display of street football skills.
