Horace Andy, 58, a farmer formerly of Akawini, in the Lower Pomeroon River, died a day after he accidentally fell into a hot pot of cassareep.
A family member said that Andy died as a result of pneumonia. The Pomeroon farmer will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
The family member said that Andy fell into the boiling pot of cassareep, after the rope attached to the boat he was pulling, burst and he lost his balance.
Andy, the family member said, fell in a sitting position and was later rescued by persons who witnessed the incident.
It was reported that Andy and other persons from Akawini were boiling the cassareep on a dam when the incident occurred. He was later taken to the Oscar Joseph Hospital, at Charity, but succumbed to his injuries a day later.
Andy sustained severe burns.
