Frenz Prince, 27, of Lot 3 East La Penitence Housing Scheme has been committed to stand trial at the High Court for the August 2009 kidnapping of popular kitty businessman’s daughter, Roreema Dookie.
Prince will stand trial at the next sitting of the Demerara Criminal Assizes at the Supreme Court of Judicature. The ruling was made by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Sergeant Neville Jeffers.
Prince is facing a charge of unlawful confinement. He was charged along with Sivon Warner, 27, of Tucville, Georgetown and Troy Solomon, 22, of Stevedore Housing Scheme. However the latter two accused were not present at yesterday’s court proceeding. Prince was also released on $200,000 bail.
Dookie was abducted on Thomas Street around 20:00 hours on August 26, 2009 by three gun men. The woman is the daughter of popular bar owner, Beharry Dookie called Natoo of Lamaha and Pike Streets, Kitty.
According to reports she was taken at gunpoint by three men and bundled into a car just after she left classes at the Business School. Her kidnappers demanded a $40M ransom.
At the time of her abduction, she was with her boyfriend, Joel Oudkerk of Annandale, East Coast Demerara.
The couple was in Oudkerk’s car outside the school when a dark coloured Toyota 212 motorcar pulled up alongside.
Three men emerged from the car and two of them went straight to Oudkerk’s side of the vehicle.
They dragged him from the vehicle and dealt him several lashes to his head, rendering him semi-conscious.
Another gunman who had proceeded to the other side of the car held the young woman at gunpoint and forced her into their waiting Toyota.
With Oudkerk helpless on the ground, all of the men re-entered their car and sped away.
Oudkerk subsequently made his way to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he received treatment for injuries he sustained to his head. About 22:00 hours that night, telephone calls were made from the abducted woman cell phone to her parents and during one of the calls a demand was made for $40M.
