Dear Editor,
As our beautiful country continues to grow and develop it would be encouraging for Guyanese to see political maturity displayed by our politicians. I was deeply saddened by the ruckus created by the APNU/AFC Opposition parties which compelled their own elected Speaker to stage a “walk-out” in frustration.
Whether “heckling” is a norm or tradition in Parliament or not, there is no excuse for such blatant disregard for the electorate, who put their faith and trust in the Parliamentarians to defend their rights and develop the country.
I felt ashamed to be a Guyanese on that day.
Our Opposition members need to realize that they are there for development and not regression. Their role is not only to oppose, but to ensure that the people of Guyana benefit. I do pray that in future such callous disregard and mockery of our institutions are not repeated.
