The Bank of Nova Scotia on Thursday last continued its highly successful relationship with the Berbice Cricket Board by pumping $330,000 into the hosting of the 6th Annual Berbice Cricket Academy and three educational programmes. The educational programmes would be the hosting of an Essay Competition for Secondary School Students, while Primary School Students would be involved in Spelling Bee and Drawing competitions.
Chairman of the BCB Special Events committee Hilbert Foster stated that the 6th Annual Cricket Academy would be held at the Area “H” Ground in Rose Hall Town in July 2013. A total of 60 youth cricketers from the Under-13 to Under-19 levels would be selected by the Junior Selection committee based on ability, discipline, attitude and performance to attend the Academy. The Drawing and Spelling Bee Competitions would be held for ten Primary Schools in both Region 5 and 6, while all the Secondary Schools would be involved in the Essay Competition on the Topic, “The Importance of Education for sportsmen”. The top three winners would receive prizes along with the winning school. The Berbice Cricket Board, Foster stated, was determined to promote the value of education to all its cricketers. The veteran cricket official also disclosed that the Bank was also a co-sponsor of the 2013 BCB Review Magazine.
President of the BCB Keith Foster and 1st Vice President Anil Beharry both expressed gratitude to the Bank of Nova Scotia and its Marketing Manager Jennifer Cipriani for investing heavily into Berbice Cricket and both pledged that the Berbice Cricket Board would continue to be the shining example of how to get things done properly.
Scotia Bank Senior staff Denise Bachan of the New Amsterdam Branch in handing over the sponsorship hailed the Berbice Cricket Board as an outstanding organisation which any sponsor would like to be associated with. She praised the Board for its wide range of activities and programmes while stating that the Bank was pleased to be associated with the development of cricket and the promotion of the importance of education for youths.
