– $1M in cash, incentives for the winner
It has traditionally been one of the marquee events at the Bartica Easter Regatta and according to many, it is one of the oldest pageants in the ‘Land of Many Waters’.
It did not come off last year which was a major disappointment but it is making a grand return this year under Coordinator, internationally renowned Fashion Designer and Bartician, Ms. Sonia Noel. Noel in briefing the media on the new innovations of this year’s pageant which has attracted eight (8) confident young ladies, said that she has been involved with pageants ever since the age of 18 and would have also been a contestant at the Regatta pageant as well.
Ready for the Stage! The eight contestants for the Bartica Regatta Pageant 2013 posing at the Pegasus Hotel yesterday.
Due to her own busy schedule, Noel said she did not really see herself being a part of the pageant but when approached to lend a helping hand, could not answer in the negative, “so it was a go”.
“This year there are a few things that we changed. The girls are from all over Guyana, because we want to develop it into something huge and they are a fantastic bunch.”
One of the new additions is the fact that the young lady to be crowned Miss Bartica Regatta 2013 will walk away with one million dollars in cash and incentives, the largest prize ever.
Commenting on the preparations, Noel opined that “every one of the contestants will be a winner”, given the various phases they will go through leading up to the night of the final, Sunday March 31, at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
“Just going through the process of preparations, these contestants must feel a better person; it’s a grooming process, an image management process.”
Ms. Meleesa Payne is the trainer and she has been doing a fine job so far, according to Noel.
The outfits that the contestants wore at yesterday’s launch portrayed the issue of health, representing various forms of cancer.
“I try to incorporate in everything I do, a message that is affecting our society, and to share positive contributions through the platform of fashion.”
The eight contestants are Sahsha Hamza, Jamilah Jones, Tekeisha Taylor, Faydeha, Alicia Bess, Shellon Fraser, Tenecia Ferrier and Eksi Edwards.
