RBC/George Cumberbatch 7th Memorial Cycle Meet
Roraima Bikers Club Alonzo Greaves once again proved that he is the man to beat when it comes to sprints as he comfortably pulled away from his challengers to win the feature 30-lap contest at the 7th annual George Cumberbatch Memorial Cycle Meet held at the Sea Wall Bandstand Circuit, yesterday.

Greaves, who sat comfortably throughout the race and kept himself within striking distance, showed superior fitness to win the main event having also notched up two second places earlier.
He powered to the line in an exciting climax to the event ahead of Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams and they were followed by Geron Williams, reigning Road Race champion Orville Hinds, Marlon King and Rastaff O’Selmo in that order.
Raul Leal and Marlon Williams each won three of the 10 prime prizes on offer. Geron Williams, Greaves, Orville Hinds and Delroy Hinds won one each.
The event which was sponsored by George Humphrey of Humphrey’s Bakery & Farm Products and former National rider Clifford ‘Toto’ Johnson in memory of their colleague and friend, former national cyclist the late George Cumberbatch, was deemed a resounding success by Brian Allen, President of the organizing club, Roraima Biker Club (RBC).
In a new race that was introduced – Win and Out – Warren Mc Kay took the top spot ahead of Alonzo Greaves and Orville Hinds.
Rawle Leal won the Juvenile/Junior/Category 4 race which went for 5-laps. Akeem Williams was 2nd and Hamza Eastman 3rd.
Ruling the roost in the Category 1 – 3 contest was Geron Williams who got the better of Alonzo Greaves and Paul DeNobrega.
Junior Niles, who has virtually put a stamp on the Veterans Under-50 class, was again in winner’s row, Kennard Lovell and Ian Jackson taking 2nd and 3rd place. Virgil Jones was the top ride in the Veterans Over-50 showdown; he crossed the line before Lancelot Rose and Dwayne Ramsey.
Over sixty riders competed at yesterday’s event, which saw the top three in each of the races apart from the main attraction where the top six, were all presented with attractive cash prizes.
Assisting with the presentation were Clifford Johnson, Tracey Humphrey and Royston Wright.
