Tournament favourites Tucville Secondary produced an inspiring performance to erase a 2-0 half time deficit to defeat a gritty Tutorial High 6-2 in the latest action of the Milo U20 School Football Competition.
Played at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, opposing captains were tasked with the important function of showing commonality in the fight against gender violence by eloquently sharing terse declarations in support of the aforementioned cause prior to kick off.
Displaying the fortitude and mental effectiveness of champions, the boys from the Tucville area opened the first half clearly in an over confident frame of mind and squandered a few chances of taking the lead early in the period. Exhibiting crisp passing complemented with deft touches, the Tucville unit began to create openings in the Tutorial backline as they constantly pressed forward at will.
Operating on the counter and quite happy to surrender the lion’s share of possession to there more illustrious opponents, the Woolford avenue unit shocked the partisan crowd by taking the lead in the 29th minute through a Steve Stunton strike.
Nudged by their surprising concession, the Tucville outfit started to attack fervently as they game began to become stretched. A further setback was incurred as Tutorial quickly added to their lead in the 31st minute compliments of a Teshawn Rodney finish.
Realizing the severity of the occasion, Tucville desperately tried to find a foothold in the game only to be denied by the catenaccioesque defending by the Tutorial side. The game began to take on an open nature and Tucville almost pulled one back, only to be denied by the uprights twice as halftime quickly loomed.
The second half started in a frenetic fashion with Tucville throwing bodies forward trying to find a way back into proceedings. There continued persistence was duly rewarded as they scored in the 49th minute through the precocious Kiefer Brandt, sending their fan base into loud celebrations.
Sensing the momentum shift and urged on by their rabid mass, the Tucville offensive juggernaut went on an all out offensive, searching for the all important equalizer.
Under the pump and unable to mount an attacking rhythm, the Tutorial unit conceded further as equivalence was restored in the 63rd minute through a Kevin Andrews finish sending the Tucville faithful into a frenzy.
Dominating the game in totality, Tucville inevitably took the lead as Dorwin Filter added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 68th minute, completing the turn around.
Dejected by their recent fate, Tucville’s comeback was further solidified as auxiliary goals were conceded in the 76th, 83rd and 85th through Roland Mayers, Wesley Wishropp and Andrews respectively, living up to their pre tournament billing.
In the opening fixtures, Charlestown Secondary crushed Ascension Secondary 5-1 thanks to Anthony Bartholomew hat trick in the 10th, 15th and 45th minutes, Shane Morris in the 5th and Omari James in the 28th, while Joshua Ramoutar was on target in the 40th minute in a losing cause and North Georgetown Secondary defeated Christ Church Secondary 4-2 compliments of a Londale George double in the 37th and 48th minutes, while getting admirable support from Nehemiah Gomes and Tiatun Tiatun in the 21st and 69th minutes respectively to end the day’s round of matches.
The tournament continues today with three more matches, at the same venue.
In the first game at 12:00 hrs, St. George’s takes on St. John’s College and that will be followed by the clash between Cummings Lodge and Queen’s College at 13:50 hrs, before South Ruimveldt tackles Bishop’s High from 15:45 hrs.
