All the winners and other top performers along with the organizer and race officials take time out for a photo following yesterday’s presentation at the National Park.
Alonzo Greaves opened his 2013 winning account with victory in the feature School Boys and Invitational 35-lap contest when the National Sports Commission (NSC) held its 11-Race Mashramani Cycle Meet yesterday at the Inner Circuit of the National Park.
The main event attracted 41 starters and in the final sprint home among the top three, Greaves was a comfortable winner in One Hour 28 Minutes 15 Seconds ahead of Paul DeNobrega and reigning National Road Race champion, Linden’s Orville Hinds.
In another sprint to determine the third to sixth place finishers, USA based Horace Burrowes outdueled John Charles who has made a welcome return to competition and Alex Mendes in that order.
Greaves took half (4) of the sprint prizes on offer with Hinds pocketing three and DeNobrega, the other.
Raul Leal was the winner of the Juvenile 10-lap race, crossing the line before Alonzo Ambrose and Akeem Arthur.
The top rider among the Upright cyclists was Stephano Husbands with Ozie Macaulay taking the second spot and Julio Melville third.
Junior Niles continued his winning ways among the Under-50 riders with yet another win, this time he bettered Wilbert Benjamin and Kennard Lovell. Suriname’s Kenneth Marjie ruled the roost among the Over-50’s; Virgil Jones came in second with Lancelot Rose, third.
Maurice Fagundes continues to be the standard bearer among the Over-60 competitors; he took the top spot followed by Joseph ‘Uncle Joe’ Fariah and Harry Lall.
The 12-14 boys and girls contest went to Berbician Romello Crawford, Alfie Sonoram placed second with Tyrique Hall, third.

6-9 – Jeremiah Harrison, Isaiah Sahadeo, Christian Sahadeo
9-12 – Shamar Grannum, Jamal Arthur, Rashadi Cerres
12-14 – Sceion Thagg, Raphael Leong, Bryton John
Open – Makiel Diaz, Jamal John, Khemraj Sanichar
Attention will now turn to today’s road race which is set for the West Demerara pedaling off from the Demerara Harbour Bridge, proceeding to Bushy Park, Parika on the East Bank Essequibo before returning to the starting point for the finish. Race time today is 09:00hrs.
