Buxton & Blairmont to host matches
Football fans are bracing for the re-commencement of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super league today with three matches set to take place at two venues.
The lone fixture set for the Blairmont Community Centre Ground; located on the West Coast of Berbice will see home team Rosignol United coming up against Uitvlugt Warriors.
The West Demerara based Uitvlugt have lost a number of its key players during the transfer window which ended on January 31 but will still be a force to reckon with, the same can be said for Rosignol which also lost a few players during the said transfer window.
For that matter, there would have been some interesting movement of players to and from clubs which will test the technical and tactical capacity of the 10 Super League Clubs. Kick off time at Blairmont is 15:30hrs.
A large turnout is anticipated at the Buxton Community Centre Ground, East Coast Demerara, where a double header will be contested, the home team Buxton United Sports Club set to lock horns with Upper Demerara’s Milerock from 15:30hrs.
All eyes will be on the reigning Kashif and Shanghai knock-out champions following their historical triumph on January 1, 2013 against another Linden side, Amelia’s Ward United.
Both Buxton and Milerock have on their roster a mixture of youth and a few seasoned players, but no big names so fans can look forward to some enticing play apart from the team aiming to consolidate their respective positions in the point’s standings.
The curtain raiser features BV Triumph United against Den Amstel Porknockers in what is expected to be another cracking duel and this gets underway at 13:30hrs.
Meanwhile, two more matches will be served up on Wednesday at the GFC Ground. Defending champions Alpha United will engage Amelia’s Ward United in the first game at 18:00hrs, while the night cap between arch rivals Pele and Western Tigers.
