Two bandits invaded the home of a policeman, tied up his wife and relieved her of more than $80,000 in an early morning attack yesterday in Grass Field, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
The policeman was on duty in Georgetown at the time of the robbery. He had left his wife, Hemwantie Persaud, alone at home.
From all indications, the bandits were fully aware that they were attacking the home of a policeman, timing their attack just when they were certain that he was not around.
While the victim was tightlipped about the robbery, Kaieteur News understands that Persaud, who rears chicken, heard a noise emanating from the coops in her yard.
Upon investigating she was pounced upon by two unmasked men who were armed with ‘choppers’.
Ordering Persaud not to make a sound, the two men forced her back into the single flat concrete house and one of them immediately enquired about her husband’s police uniform.
They eventually tied her up and ransacked the house, carting off the cash.
After they fled, Persaud managed to free herself and alerted neighbours before eventually contacting the police.
She also contacted her husband who hurriedly left his job and went home.
So far no arrest has been made.
