Mazahar Ally appeared in court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to five charges including threatening behavior to cause a breach of the peace, assaulting an officer in the execution of his duties, driving his vehicle in a dangerous manner so as to run over the officer, and making use of insulting language by calling the officer an insulting name.
The charges stemmed from an episode at the Ogle Aerodrome.
According to reports from Ogle, Mazahar Ally of Air Services Limited was the driver of PKK 4853 when he tried to run over Harold Hopkinson, a security officer attached to the aerodrome.
Air Services Limited was executing some works at the aerodrome on an active runway without the requisite permission.
At the request of his supervisors, Hopkinson approached the workers and ordered them to cease work. The workers duly informed Mazahar Ally who reported to the site.
Immediately there was a confrontation during which Ally reportedly lost his temper and became hostile, the reports stated. Hopkinson was at the receiving end of the tirade, sources at Ogle reported.
They said that in the end Ally got into his car and attempted to run over Hopkinson who had to dive out of the path. A source said that a recording of the incident tells a horrible story.
Hopkinson immediately moved to the courts to file private criminal charges. He is being represented by attorneys Gino Persaud and Miles Fitzpatrick.
Ally is being represented by Edward Luckhoo and Neil Boston. He was released on his own cognizance.
The aerodrome officials said that this is not the first time that Mazahar Ally has lost his cool. On one occasion he drove his vehicle through a locked gate at the airport.
