Three Chinese Nationals were placed before the court yesterday after they allegedly assaulted and wounded a shopper.
The court heard that on December 24, last, Zhang Zhen, Zhang you Qiuang and Zhang Sang unlawfully wounded Geiraj Singh, and assaulted him. The trio denied the allegations as they stood before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry. Singh is also charged for assaulting Zhang Zhen but he too stated that he is not guilty of the charge.
According to reports, Singh went into the Lucky Fashion Chinese store on Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown and purchased a silver ring. The man was in the store when Zhang Zhen approached him and accused him of stealing the silver ring.
The man denied the accusation and proceeded to walk out of the store. Zhen then held unto Singh restraining him from leaving the store. The man struggled to escape Zhen’s grip resulting in injuries to both persons. Two other Chinese (Sang and Quiang) came up and aided Zhen. The three Chinese reportedly engaged in assaulting the man causing him further injuries.
The trio was placed on $30,000 bail each while Singh was granted bail in sum of $10,000.
This incident closely trails the case in which a Chinese couple has been charged for assaulting an 11-year-old girl at their business establishment located in the Stabroek Market vicinity. That couple was released on $80,000 bail each by Magistrate Judy Latchman. They are expected to return to court on January 28 for trial.
