GCB Senior 4-day Inter County tourney…Mohamed bowls Demerara into comfortable position, Rain ruins day 3 at Wales

Off-spinner Zaheer Mohamed grabbed 5 wickets for 27 runs to put Demerara into a comfortable position against GT&T Berbice, while rain prevented any play between Essequibo and the President’s XI at Wales when the 3rd day of the final round of the Guyana Cricket Board Senior 4-day Inter County tournament concluded yesterday.
Demerara resumed at Everest on their overnight first innings score of 286-7 with Joseph Perry on 31 and Paul Wintz on 03, Perry added one to his total before he was caught behind by Joseph Sinclair of Gudakesh Motie Kanhai in the second over of the day. Eon Hooper then bowled Amir Khan (00) before Kanhai removed Andre Stoll (01), leaving Wintz not out on 04 as Demerara were bowled for 290 in the first session. Hooper finished with 4-60, Kanhai 4-68, Zamal Khan 1-32 and Keon Joseph 1-49.
With a deficit of 122 GT&T Berbice lost Richard Ramdeen, who was caught at the wicket by Perry off Mohamed for 13 at 39. Mohamed then trapped Gajanand Singh (00) in front before Sewnarine Chattergoon and Assad Fudadin saw them to lunch at 57-2, with Chattergoon on 36 and Fudadin on 10.
The pair continued to take the fight to the home team after the break and brought up their team’s triple figure off 221 balls in 137 minutes. Chattergoon drove Mohamed to the extra cover boundary to bring up his fifty off 95 balls in 121 minutes stay at the crease. Fudadin who middled the ball well and played some handsome shots departed on the stroke of tea when he pushed forward to off spinner Shaquille Williams and was given out leg before for 14 after sharing in a 3rd wicket stand of 88 with Chattergoon.
Jason Sinclair then had his furniture disturbed by Mohamed as he attempted a huge swipe five runs later. Mohamed, who continued to maintain a steady line and length, then had Delbert Hicks caught by wicketkeeper Perry down the leg side for 03 and Chattergoon taken at 1st slip by Rajendra Chandrika for a well played 89 to leave GT&T Berbice at 147-6.
Chattergoon’s innings came off 192 balls in 214 minutes and included six fours and two sixes. With his team in trouble, Clinton Pestano (02) lofted Amir Khan to long on, while Zamal Khan (07) seemed unlucky to be given out leg before to Khan before Hooper and Kanhai were involved in a terrible mix up due to poor communication between the wickets which resulted in Hooper being run out for 13 at 174. 
Kanhai is unbeaten on 08 and Joseph not out on 06 as Berbice with a lead of 63 closed the day on 185-9. Mohamed received support from Khan 2-63 and Williams 1-35. Today is the final day. At Wales, the President’s XI, who has a lead of 62, were set to resume on 07-1 after bowling out Essequibo for 100 in their first innings. The President’s XI had made 157 batting first.
