Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia – Jamaica beat Guyana by five wickets in the Caribbean T20 held in St Lucia yesterday afternoon.
Jamaica won the toss and sent Guyana in to bat restricting them to a paltry 93 off 19.4 overs.
Only Chris Barnwell 27 and Royston Crandon 20 offered some resistance with Narsingh Deonarine making 13, the other batsman into double figures. Andre Russell grabbed 4-22 to claim the man-of-the-match prize as Sheldon Cotterrell 2-8 and Nikita Miller 2-25 lent useful support.
In reply the Jamaicans struggled initially to reach 94 for 5 in 18.1 overs. At the end Russell was on 20 not out and David Bernard on nine. Danza Hyatt 22 and Krishmar Santokie 22 led the early fight after they had lost an early wicket.
The action continues today with CC&C versus Leeward Islands in the first game at 16:00hrs, while the second game pits Barbados against Trinidad & Tobago in the nightcap at 20:00hrs.
Guyana will hope for better fortunes when they take on the Leeward Islands in the opening game tomorrow, while Barbados battle the Windwards in the other game.
