– in keeping with FIFA / CONCACAF brokered agreement
Following the end of the football impasse between the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) on the intervention of a high powered team from FIFA and CONCACAF, the GFA is expected to withdraw their legal actions from the court, today.
The first point in the ‘Terms of Agreement’ that was signed between the two parties speaks to this matter: “GFA agrees to permanently withdraw all legal actions lodged before the ordinary courts against the GFF by 14 January 2013”.
Based on this agreement and the spirit in which it was arrived at, the football fraternity is anticipating the extraction of the injunctions and the forward thrust and development of the game in Guyana.
The agreement between the two bodies went on for close to two years but that being settled, it is hoped that there will be no turning back with regard to overall development of the sport.
Apart from the case being withdrawn, the GFA will receive its full voting rights while it will restore full voting rights to Pele Football Club, Western Tigers and Alpha United who were not under their umbrella during the standoff with the GFF.
The GFA will hold its Annual General Meeting on Saturday with the three clubs mentioned above having until Wednesday to make nominations and participate like the other clubs in this AGM which will be monitored by the GFF.
The GFF in turn will hold its Ordinary Congress by April 15 where the elections of a new executive committee will take place. Prior to the GFF’s elections, it has been agreed that an Electoral Commission will be set up by the governing body consisting of three (3) independent persons no later than January 31st.
This commission will oversee and supervise its electoral process in accordance with the principles of the FIFA Standard Electoral Code. The names of the three persons have already been agreed to by the Members of the GFF and will be confirmed by FIFA.
