Jeremy Garrett netted in the 11th, 16th, 30th and 34th minutes and received support from Ryan Hackett in the 6th, 13th and 29th minutes to inflict a 7-0 drubbing on Tucville Primary School when action in the inaugural Chico Junior U-13 Round Robin Football Lien tournament continued at the Georgetown Football Club Ground yesterday afternoon.
Uitvlugt Primary School was also in winner’s row, defeating St Gabriel’s primary 2-0 after Shameer Hartman drilled the goalie with a powerful right foot kick in the 30th minute with David Blake replicating the feat in the 35th minute.
Israel Yaw then netted in the 3rd minute to send West Ruimveldt ahead 1 nil against Beterverwagting Primary shortly before Shaun Dominick converted from the penalty spot to hand Grove Primary a 1-0 victory over Soesdyke Primary School.
The youngsters were forced to play on a sodden and muddy field after overnight rains had subsided. Grove Primary could consider itself lucky after Simeon Richardson and Randy Smart missed penalties after both were fouled in the box. As they say, ‘all’s well that ends well’ and Dominick’s success certainly compensated for the blunders.
The players will be rested today and return tomorrow afternoon when Company Road Primary School opposes Grove Primary followed by BV Quamina Primary up against Uitvlugt Primary. Tucville Primary will then play Soesdyke Primary, while West Ruimveldt Primary brings the curtains down with a match against St Gabriel’s primary.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur Sport was unable to report on the results of two games contested on Friday evening between Tucville Primary and Grove Primary and BV Primary and St Gabriel’s Primary. Both Tucville Primary and BV Primary had triumphed by a lone goal to nil. Jeremy Garrett was on target for Tucville Primary, while Shemar Barry had netted for BV Primary.
Eight teams are participating in the tournament which concludes on January 1 next. Apart from the lucrative prizes put up by the main sponsors, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) on each team will receive BMX bicycles donated by Victoria’s Fashions of Church and Light Streets. The tournament is being contested simultaneously with the annual K&S yearly football event and concludes on January 1 next with the finals at the National Stadium.
