Main Street was last evening transformed into a Christmas Village, replacing the annual “Big Lime.”
The area was transformed into a dazzling wonderland with beautiful and colourful lights towering over the entire thoroughfare.
Present at last evening’s launching were President Donald Ramotar, Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds, and Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali. There were also other guests.
The Christmas Village which will become an annual feature will be the family event of the year. Activities will take place from 14:00hrs to 22:00 hrs daily until Christmas Eve. There will also be a variety of booths showcasing different products.
According to President Ramotar, the Christmas Village is a new idea to have family enjoying the Christmas season. He said that despite the problems in the city, Main Street remains one of the most beautiful streets.
He added that Main Street “has some of the most beautiful buildings and the greenery here makes the scene nice.” The President encouraged people to come out and visit the Christmas Village since he said, Christmas is about sharing, giving and to have a wonderful time with the family,
The fantastic Christmas Village is the first to be organized by the Ministry of Tourism. Kaieteur News was told that organizing the Christmas Village was a challenge since the general public had grown accustomed to the “Main Big Line”.
However, when the idea was penned and shared with the stakeholders, it was well received.
The general idea of the Christmas Village is to create an environment, an atmosphere of spectacular light, Christmas carols and treats that will usher in the spirit of Christmas in a family oriented way.
