Ewart Collis of Araima Back Dam North West district was on Monday remanded to prison for murder.
The accused was not required to enter a plea when he faced Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
On December 11, last, at Port Kaituma, he allegedly murdered Renaldo Richards.
The police reported that Richards and Collis were friends who worked together. On the day in question, the accused and the victim were consuming alcohol. Both men became intoxicated and had a misunderstanding over a memory card. The quarrel quickly developed into a physical altercation during which the accused used a cutlass and dealt the victim a fatal stab to his stomach.
The murder case was transferred to Mathew’s Ridge Magistrates’ court, where it is scheduled to come up for trial on February 6, 2013.
