Carib of Trinidad and Tobago defeated Old Old Fort 4-2 in the Veterans actegory, while Hikers women exacted revenge when they hammered Malvern 6-1 as action in this year’s Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival continued yesterday, at the National Gymnasium.
On target for Carib was Nigel Simon, who lashed in a treble in the 7th, 8th and 28th minutes, while Neil Ramsammy’s 27th minute strike completed their tally.
Dexter Wyles 13th and Sonia Gordon 30th minutes efforts was all Old Old Fort could muster.
In results of matches on the opening day, Old Fort went down to Renegades 4-5 with Shane Samuels netting a hat-trick in the 36th, 37th and 38th minutes, while Nku Davis 14th and Shad Fernandes 26th minutes strikes completed their total.
Aderemi Simon 4th and 19th, Shawn Berreto 7th and Micah Teixeira 9th were the players on target for Old Fort.
In the Veterans category, Malvern cruised past Carib 3-0 with Koury Barnett netting a double in the 19th and 30th minutes and Seon Alexander 15th completing their tally.
Hikers then beat Fatima 3-1 through goals off the sticks of Devin Hooper 15th and 29th and George Melville 2nd.
Desmond Dougall in the 27th minute made the lone response for Fatima.
In a Ladies matchup, Hikers defeated Bokra 4-1 Maria Munroe 5th, Macaela Hardind 10th, Cora Towler 15th and Avonda James 28th were the players on the scoresheet.
Athena Seenanan 23rd minute strike was the only player for Bokra to score.
Old Fort then came from behind to edge Fatima 4-3 with former national standout Gavin Hope displaying cracking form, hammering in a hat-tring in the 20th, 29th and 30th minutes, while John Abrahams added the other in the 21st minute.
Hikers then beat GCC 5-4 with Melville 5th and 9th, Timothy Jonas 13th, Sheldon Corlette 16th and Devin Munroe 29th, the players to score.
GCC’s goals came from Devin Hooper 2nd and 25th, Alan Fernandes 4th and Philip Fernandes 18th.
Hikers then returned to crush GCC 7-3.
Robert France netted a treble in the 7th, 26th and 29th minutes, while Aroydy Branford 11th and 37th and Colonel Heywood 27th and 31st supported admirably.
Kevin Spencer 16th and 40th and Dwayne Scott 13th were the marksmen for GCC.
The full results of the other matches scheduled for yresterday will be published in the next issue.
The Festival continues today with more matches, at the same venue.
