When the 23rd edition of the annual Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament gets underway on Sunday December 16 next, the late proprietor of Bakewell, Nahim Nazeer, will feature, as the businessman’s contribution to the tournament ever since its inauguration has been phenomenal.
Kashif Muhammad made this disclosure yesterday morning when he, accompanied by his business partner, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, travelled to the Triumph based headquarters of that company to collect the customary cheque to offset expenses for this year’s edition of the tournament.
Manager of the Bakewell Company, Rajindranauth Ganga, handed over the gift even as he extended best wishes to the two organizers. Mr. Muhammad was grateful for the continued support and revealed that Bakewell has been a prominent feature ever since the inauguration of the tournament. He said that the late proprietor has made a tremendous contribution, not only to the development of his tournament but sports in general.
“He was a generous giver and asked for nothing in return,” said Mr. Muhammad. He further lamented that death has visit the late businessman too soon. He then announced that the tournament would be known as the Nahim Nazeer/Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament. He said that he had intimated this to the family of the late businessman who appreciated the gesture.
Mr. Ganga was enthused by the suggestion and extended gratitude to the K&S duo. He said that the tournament is an important cog in the development of local ball weavers.
Meanwhile, the action commences with the opening ceremony on Sunday 16 at the GFC Ground, Bourda while other matches are scheduled for that venue on Friday 21. The players then travel to Uitvlugt on Sunday December 23. On Christmas day activities switch to Beterverwagting and one day later, on Boxing Day, the action will be at the Buxton Community Centre Ground. The semi-finals will be played at the GFC Ground while the grand finale is slated for the National Stadium, Providence on January 1, 2013.
