These are the saddest moments of Navindra Budhoo’s life, the most critical. He lost his wife and his unborn child hours after the mother of three had undergone a Caesarian section at the Suddie Public Hospital.
Mr. Budhoo said that his 27-year-old wife, Amanda Tulsi, and his unborn child died Sunday morning. He said that on Wednesday his wife, who was six months into her pregnancy complained to his neighbour, one Jean, of experiencing excruciating abdominal pains. He said that his neighbour advised his wife to seek medical attention, which she did, at the Suddie Public Hospital.
The father of two further explained that after examination, his wife was admitted and remained a patient until Wednesday when she was discharged.
A sad Budhoo said that the following day he received a call alerting him to visit the Suddie Public Hospital, which he did.
Budhoo said that upon visiting his wife in the hospital, he did not notice anything unusual in her condition but added that she looked good and she was conversing, but noted that his wife told him that she was not feeling movements of her baby.
The farmer said that doctors, however, kept his wife in the hospital until Friday and noted on her clinic chart that her intended due date was December 13.
Budhoo said, on Saturday morning his wife complained of experiencing abdominal pains, a day after she was discharged from the hospital and was transported to a private clinic at Suddie following her second complaint of experiencing abdominal pains.
However, the doctor was not at his clinic so Budhoo said that he decided to take his wife back to the Suddie Public Hospital.
During all that time Budhoo said his wife was bleeding profusely in the car and even after she was admitted a patient for the second time at the Hospital, until her death early Sunday morning.
Medical Superintendent acting, Dr. Rayamha Chandra, at the Suddie Public Hospital said that the doctors at Suddie “did their best”. He said that three days prior, on November 17, the mother, Amanda, came into the Hospital with lower abdominal pains.
Chandra explained that Amanda had undergone an ultra sound examination and had her fetus monitored. The examination showed that her fetus was in distress; the baby was not moving and as such the mother was operated on in order for her to give birth to the baby.
Doctor Chandra however said the young woman, who had bled profusely before and after the operation unfortunately succumbed.
When asked if the mother had attended clinic regularly, Dr. Chandra responded in the negative.
A post Mortem is expected to be performed on Amanda and her baby today, at the Suddie Mortuary.
