Ronny Chang of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, faced Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, accused of stealing a BlackBerry cellular phone from his acquaintance.
Chang pleaded guilty to the charge. Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick told the court that the defendant and virtual complainant are friends, but at the time when the phone went missing they were having a conversation at the Linden minibus park.
The plaintiff reportedly placed his phone on a glass case and turned away. After he became conscious that his phone had been removed by someone, he blamed Chang, who had removed from the area. Chang was later arrested and charged with the offence.
Chang said that he did not accept the facts of the prosecution and explained that he was just standing around the area when the phone went missing. After hearing his explanation the Magistrate entered a not guilty plea for Chang. He was ordered to pay a bail of $20,000 and the matter was transferred to court 10 for November 11.
