A fisherman of Mabaruma, North West District, who reportedly wounded a colleague of his, appeared at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Junior Marks is charged with beating and unlawfully wounding Andy Fordyce after he found him intoxicated aboard his (Marks’) fishing boat.
The police reported that on October 28, the defendant went abroad his fishing vessel and found Fordyce drunk and behaving inappropriately. The defendant rebuked the plaintiff who refused to get off the boat. Marks allegedly became infuriated and kicked and beat the complainant with his fist shoving him off the boat, and causing him to sustain several injuries as well as a swollen face. The man was later taken to the police station where a report was lodged. As a result Marks was arrested and brought before the court.
Marks was placed on $100,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry who transferred the matter to the Mabaruma Magistrates’ Court. The matter will be called on November 6.
