The tangible support for Guyana’s sportsmen and women from Fitness Express has continued with the company sponsoring Guyana’s lone representative to the Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic in Barbados on Saturday evening at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
The Guyana Amateur Body Building & Fitness Federation selected Perry for the show and Fitness Express took up the challenge of paying Perry’s way to compete at the event that will feature athletes from the host country, St. Lucia and Antigua & Barbuda among others.
Jamie Mc Donald and Mark Perry at Fitness Express.
Jamie Mc Donald, Owner/Manager of Fitness Express stated that Perry will give a very good account of himself in Barbados and his entity was pleased to help make his participation a reality. Perry thanked Mc Donald for his continued support and promised to give of his best.
Based on reports out of Barbados, Perry is seen as a threat to Barbadian Hoskins “Biscuit” Worrell who has won the first four editions of the Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic and has set his sights on claiming title number five.
Worrell is fresh from capturing the light middleweight and Masters divisions at the just concluded Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Championships in Puerto Rico where Guyana’s Devon Davis won gold in the Bantamweight division, Guyana’s first gold in seven years.
Perry will compete in the Regional/Invitational aspect of Saturday’s event which might also feature towering St Lucian Rolandson “The Beast” Auguste. There will be an open competition featuring Barbadian competitors with the top three qualifying for the Invitational segment.
The championships will be enhanced by an exhibition from Barbadian Andrew Jemmott, who earned his Masters Pro Card with a victory in the Over-40 class at the North American Championships in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a few weeks ago.
Jemmott has qualified to compete at the Masters Olympia.
