After being dormant for about five years, the West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo Chamber of Commerce has been resuscitated under a new name and its newly elected executives are in the process of executing plans to fulfill its long overdue vision.
The members want to inspire persons to open businesses which will create more employment opportunities in the Region (Region Three) and provide residents the opportunity to have better lives.
Sase Shewnarain of the Aracari Resort has been elected as the new Chairman of the body, while Ramesh Sugrim of
Shell Gas Station has been named Vice President. The new Secretary is Reyaz Hussain of Fatboy’s Discount Store, and the new Treasurer is Safraz A. Khan of Chester Fried.
Vijay Chand, Bhaijnauth, A Boohoo, Andy De Jesus, Bhupaul Panday, Harry Rambhola, and S. Ali were all named as Committee Members.
The Chamber recently had its first statutory meeting at the Aracari Resort.
In making its “comeback”, the body has even opted to have its name changed from being the West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to being the Guyana Region Three Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The body is also hoping to get involved in charitable work such as assisting Orphanages and Senior Citizens’ Homes.
Vice Chairman, Mr. Sugrim noted that in addition to this, the Chamber will soon be implementing a number of strategies which will prove beneficial to the people of Region Three.
