The Universal DVD Berbice Titans showed that they are the undisputed 20/20 cricket kings in Guyana as they continued their winning ways and their unbeaten run with another crushing victory over Hits and Jams Superstars under lights in the feature match of the third edition of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA) Corporate Business In Sports (CBIS) Annual Inter Agency 10/10 cricket competition, exhibition and fun day.
The winning Universal DVD Berbice titans Team pose with their management and coaching staff and their silverware compliments of the Universal DVD and Solution company.
Playing in the specially arranged game of the mega one day activity which was exclusively sponsored by The Universal DVD and Solution Company on Saturday at the Albion Sports Complex ground The Titans extend their unbeaten run which started since 2010.
The game, which got underway around 22:00hrs and was reduced to a 15/15 over affair, ended in the wee hours of Sunday Morning. The Universal DVD Berbice Titans held their nerves and showed their superior quality to defeat arch rivals Hits and Jams Superstars in a closely contested game.
Batting first, Hits and Jams Superstars team out of Georgetown compiled a formidable 128-9 with national opener Anson Barrington plundering 54 (3×6 and 7×4) off 23 deliveries with support from Elton Baker 25. The visitors were in fact off to a bad start losing opener Andrew Lyght junior, caught behind in the second over off Pacer Michael Newland without scoring. It took a 46 runs third wicket partnership between Barrington and Baker to put some respectability to the total. Barrington who looked in excellent form stroked the ball crisply and played some crashing as well as big shots as he went merrily along. When he was on 50 the HJ team were only on 56.
Bowling for the Berbice Titans, left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie Kanhai led the way with 3-30, he was supported by leg spinner Sewnarine Chattergoon and Pacer Keon Joseph with two each while there were one apiece for pacer Newland and off spinner Eon Hooper.
Universal DVD Berbice Titans in their reply were given a rollicking start of 28 in two overs between captain Chattergoon 22 and Richard Ramdeen 13. Ramdeen played the shot of the match, going down on one knee and lifting Kellon Carmichael (who strangely opened the bowling with Sean Daniel ahead of Ronsford Beaton), over extra cover on to the main pavilion for six. He then followed up by lifting the next delivery over the commentator’s booth out of the ground for another maximum. He was however out in the same over, caught at cover.
Berbice Titans were in some bother at 82-6 in the ninth over before man-of-the-match Hooper 30 Not Out (6×2, 4×2) joined forces with Jonathan Foo 16 not out (1×6, 1×4) to blast and unbroken 52 in just four overs for the seventh wicket. Hooper, who had an excellent game, played superbly and a superb extra cover drive for six to end the match reminded many of his elder cousin, former West Indies captain Carl Hooper at his best.
Bowling for the HJ team Carmichael ended with two wickets while there were one each for Daniels, Beaton, Baker and Geetendra Sookdeo.
At the presentation ceremony that followed immediately after. The Berbice Titans were presented with the winning Trophy and $100,000 by managing Director of The Universal Company Vickram Seubarran.
Hits and Jams received the runner up trophy and cash also from the sponsor.
Additional prizes went to Man-of-the-match Eon Hooper of Berbice Titans for his 30 not out, one wicket and one catch. Best batsman Anson Barrington for his pugnacious 50 in the Hits and Jams innings and Gudakesh Motie Kanhai who had the best bowling figures of 3-30.
The activity was declared opened by Regional Chairman David Armogan who welcome all and congratulated the organizers on behalf of Government of Guyana and the Regional Administration.
During the night, massive lights were used, a Big Screen Projectors, Fireworks and other entertainment packages along with a number of top artistes were also in attendance to entertain the fans. Patrons also had an opportunity to win fabulous gate prizes including cell phones, and a Motorcycle.
