The Scout Association of Guyana is planning a wide-range of activities to mark its 103rd anniversary this month. The association is inviting members of the public to come and be part of the festivities, set to get underway during the weekend of October 26.
Groups from across the country will begin assembling at the association’s headquarters on Woolford Avenue to set up camp on Friday, October 26. This will be a prelude to the major activities set to take place the following day, Saturday October 27, including a parade around Georgetown beginning at 8:30am. The public is then invited to a Fun Day and Bar-B-Q where they will have an opportunity to see first-hand, some of the activities scouts participate in and learn more about the association.
District Commissioner of the Association, Dominique Van Sluytman, said these activities, in addition to being a grand celebration to mark the 103rd anniversary, offer an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about scouting and how they can be a part of this global movement.
“We are very excited to be holding these various activities to mark our anniversary. The Camp, B-B-Q and Fun Day is a great forum at which scouts from across Guyana get an opportunity to meet, interact and have some fun. We also would like members of the public to come out and enjoy the celebrations, and hopefully, young people themselves will be encouraged to come on board by joining the association,”Van Sluytman said.
Following the Fun Day and B-B-Q, a candlelight parade will be held at 6:30pm from Scout’s headquarters to Parade Ground, where the association will have a Campfire. The public is also invited to be part of this activity.
The association will conclude its activities on Sunday October 28 with an interfaith service, lunch, and presentation of certificates for Best Campsite Development and Best Camp Gateway.
