Controversial businessman Ricardo Ignatius Rodrigues was gunned down at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) in Thomas Lands at around 15:00 hrs today.
Reports said that Rodrigues, called ‘Fat Man’, was riddled with bullets by gunmen who were armed with assault rifles. Two other men who were with Rodrigues were also wounded during the brazen attack.
Kaieteur News understands that Rodrigues was drinking with friends when the gunmen, dressed in dark clothing, opened fire on the group at close range. One of the bullets tore away part of Rodrigues’s face. He was also shot in the legs and is believed to have died instantly.
His body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary, while his two wounded associates were rushed to the GPHC Accident and Emergency Unit.
Eyewitness said that a gym instructor who was with Rodrigues was also shot as he tried to flee.
Police reportedly recovered several 7.62×39 shells and bullets from the scene.
Rodrigues was at one time linked to self confessed drug dealer, Shaheed ‘Roger’ Khan who is serving a 14-year sentence in the United States of America.
