As Digicel participated in GuyExpo (Guyana Exhibition) for the sixth consecutive year, the phone company has recorded another successful year and indicated that next year it will ‘up’ its game another notch.
This year’s exhibition was held under the theme “Strengthening the traditional, embracing the new”.
GuyExpo – Guyana’s largest Trade and Investment Exposition – began in 1995. The event, objectives of which are to showcase locally produced goods and services, became an annual event in 2004 and is held at the National Exhibition Centre in Sophia.
Digicel’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Shonnet Moore said that the company has been involved in GuyExpo since its launch in 2007 and has all intentions to continue full participation; as GuyExpo has always been beneficial with improvements being sighted yearly.
Moore said that Digicel has always viewed GuyExpo as not just a promotional activity but as a “unique opportunity to be updated about customer’s needs and satisfaction.” She indicated that in that way, the company has an opening to identify exactly what customers are expecting and “we get to inform them of some of our plans”.
Noting that there is quite a number of customers who are not in favor of the available customer care service, Moore said that Digicel, even more than selling phones, promotes interaction with customers at GuyExpo.
At this year’s extremely well attended GuyExpo, Digicel offered potential customers a range of opportunities which most took advantage of.
Exhibit viewers were offered significantly reduced prices on handsets, some of which are relatively new on Guyana’s market.
Blackberry 9320 (the improved curve) was being sold at a minimum rate of 38,000, a deal that was taken full advantage of by customers.
Also available, according to Moore, was one of the trendiest smart phones, the Samsung Galaxy 53. Apart from that, Nokia was being sold at $3000. Moore said that customers seized the opportunity to make purchases and the company was available to meet demands.
Persons who added credit to their phone account had a chance to win prizes. In addition, international “top up” was promoted at the event with in-depth explanations being offered as it relates to how international top-up works.
Moore said that Digicel also tried to give patrons who visited its booth “an experience”. Therefore, the company incorporated a “social media area” where three computers were made available for patrons to update their Facebook statuses while at the event.
Also, viewers were allowed photo opportunities both with friends and Digicel local faces, including cricketers, beauty queens and cyclists.
The opportunity also presented itself for patrons to socialize with the local ‘VIPs’. Moore indicated that all the photos have since been added to Digicel’s Facebook page.
“We got a chance to interact with the people to whom we are providing a service, inform them of what is new, understand their expectations so we can go back to the table and strategise what’s next. We sold lots of phones and at the same time gave customers an opportunity to experience GuyExpo in a unique way,” Moore stated.
