NBS\GCA second division 40 over competition
Demerara Cricket Club and Georgetown Cricket Club have cemented their places in the final of the New Building Society\ Georgetown Cricket Association second division 40-over competition after recording comfortable victories in their respective semifinal matches last Saturday.
At DCC, the home team defeated Everest Cricket Club by 176 runs. Everest won the toss and elected to bowl first, pacer Riyad Sattaur justified their decision when he had opener Kemol Savory caught behind for 5 with the score on 18.
Jahron Byron then joined Larry Smith and took the score to 52 before Byron was caught for 23 off the bowling of spinner Saheed Mohamed who also accounted for Jamal Hinckson for 15 with the score on 76. Left arm spinner Javed Rasheed then removed Smith for 56 (8×4, 2×6) at 113 before Omesh Danram and Andrew Gibson added 87 for the 5th wicket stand with aggressive batting.
When Gibson departed for 39, Dennis Squires, who made 21, joined Danram and continued the onslaught with a 50 run 6th wicket partnership. Danram who was put down on several occasions was eventually dismissed for 106 which included twelve fours and five sixes as the host finished on 294-9 off their 40 overs. Saheed Mohamed claimed 4-60 from 8 overs while Sattaur took 2-31 and Chris Surat 2-56.
Everest started off their reply in fine fashion with opener Sherfene Rutherford and Rishi Heralall adding 48 for the opening stand before Heralall was caught off pacer Dexter George for 4. Everest then lost two more wickets without addition to the score and never really recovered and were eventually bowled out for 118 in 25.5 overs. Rutherford top scored with 41(8×4,1×6) while Khemraj Ramdeen 19, Chris Surat 16, and Denish Mangal 10 were the other batsmen that reached double figures.
Pacer Kavil Reece was the pick of the bowlers for DCC with 4-45 off 8 overs, while Squires claimed 2-27 off 6, and Dexter George 2-24 from 6.
At Bourda, GCC overcame Police by 102 runs. Winston Forrester slammed thirteen fours before he was dismissed for 99, and received valuable support from Elon Fernandes 62 (1×4, 2×6), Robin Bacchus 54 (8×4), and Alex Ramalho 41(4×4,1×6) as GCC posted 287-4 off their allocation of 40 overs after taking first strike. Ryan Rajmangal captured 2-43.
Police in their turn at the crease were bowled out 185. Rawle Haynes led with 33 while Rajmangal made 24, Munilall Persaud 22 and Leon Crawford 20. Devon Lord 2-29, Almando Doman 2-22, and Robin Bacchus 2-30 were the main wicket takers for the winners.
DCC and GCC will now clash in what is expected to an exiting final on a date to be announced. (Zaheer Mohamed)
