Dear Editor,
President Donald Ramotar’s comment recently (Stabroek News 24.09.2012 “irregularities not top priority says Ramotar”) about the financial irregularities at the National Communications Network N.C.N. is quite alarming. When our President or a Minister or any Government Official is going to make a statement or such a comment as he was reported, then we the people of this country have to seriously question the direction we are heading.
When the head of the Presidential Secretariat is saying, as in the case of the piracy of the textbooks, that it is alright to be dishonest, then we are a nation that is being led in the wrong direction.
What must be or major concern to all Guyanese irrespective of political affiliation, is that only members of the political opposition parties, mainly the Alliance for Change AFC, have been vocal in their criticism of that decision to steal other people’ work, and the reckless comments that we have now become accustomed to from Dr. Luncheon.
What our Head of State is actually saying is that the NCN issue is not important to him and does not warrant a more extensive investigation.
In retrospect, given the number of high profile cases of fraud that were dismissed for want of prosecution, many of them because of the state’s failure to assign a lawyer to prosecute, and the numerous allegations of corruption made against Ministers of the Government, and Senior Government Officials, this administration has failed.
It would be a fair comment for anybody to say that this Government is condoning fraud and corruption instead of confronting them.
Archie W. Cordis
A.F.C. Councillor
