Alonzo Greaves called on his experience and captured the honours in the Open Category when action in the 10th Annual Victor Macedo Memorial Cycle Race concluded yesterday morning. The race started in front of the former office of the Ministry of Housing and Water, Homestretch Avenue and proceeded to Long Creek, Linden/Soesdyke Highway and back to the place of origin.
Amidst keen rivalry, Rastaff O’Selmo rode in second, Michael Anthony third with Raymond Newton fourth, Raynauth Jeffrey fifth, Walter Grant-Stuart sixth, Paul DeNobrega seventh and Akeem Arthur rounding out the top eight that received prizes.
Newton carted off the lion’s share of the prime prizes (5) while O’Selmo copped three. Anthony won 2 and Davenand Bissoon and Alonzo Greaves bagged one apiece.
Junior cyclists that participated in the event were awarded special prizes for their efforts. Among them were Michael Anthony, Raynauth Jeffrey, Paul DeNobrega and Akeem Arthur.
Cravis Jeffrey rode off with the honours in the race between Ladies and Boys 14 years and under with Naiomi Singh finishing second. Hazina Barrett did not place among the top finishers but captured both prime prizes on offer.
Veteran cyclist, Ian ‘Dumb Boy’ Jackson continues to excel among his peers and rode a brilliant race to cart off the honours in that category ahead of Ralph Williams and Kennard Lovell respectively. Three riders shared the prime prizes in this category; Virgil Jones captured two while Williams and Shaw claimed one each.
Activities were coordinated by Flying Stars Cycling Club and sponsored by Macedo Transportation Services Ltd.
