The government has given the go ahead for the addition of 38 more staff for the Guyana Prison Service. According to a statement from the Minister of Home Affairs, this move is in keeping with the Guyana Prison Service Strategic Plan 2010-2015 to enhance the security of prison estates and prisoners. The 38 persons will be employed as Assistant Prison Officers.
These persons will be trained and posted to appropriate locations in the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) to strengthen the existing staff.
This move is also expected to help boost the human resources capacity of the Guyana Prison Service which has prison locations around the country. These locations include Mazaruni, Lusignan, New Amsterdam, Georgetown and Timehri.
