Paul DeNobrega takes Junior gold; Michael Anthony is Juvenile champ
The consistent and constant rise of Guyana’s Junior cyclists was further confirmed when this nation copped both Gold medals in the Junior and Juvenile Road race categories at the 2012 Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships hosted by the Federación Dominican de Ciclismo on September 15 and 16 in the capital city of Santo Domingo.
The Championships, which also included an individual time trial, saw the Linden Based Michael Anthony, who placed 3rd in the Junior category at the Guyana Cycling Federation 2012 National Road Races Championships, pedaling to a commanding victory in the 14 – 16 years 50kms 8-Lap contest in One Hour 26 Minutes 56 Seconds to defeat Pedro Rosa Nunez of Puerto Rico who finished a distant second in One Hour 30 Minutes 55 Seconds.
Akil Campbell of Trinidad and Tobago took 3rd with Guyana’s Raul Leal, who was second at the GCF’s National Road Race Championships earlier this year, taking the 4th place.
In the Junior race, Paul DeNobrega rode a fantastic race to claim the Gold medal with his countryman Raynauth Jeffrey (GCF 2012 Junior Road Race champion) claiming the bronze medal to cap a fine performance by the Guyanese riders who were all sponsored by Manager of the Miami based Team Coco’s, Guyanese Ian Davis aka QB.
Manager of the team to the Dominican Republic was former National cyclist Wayne DeAbreu.
