– West Berbice 7 Edinburg also advance
After all of the first round matches had to be postponed the previous weekend, this year’s Ramcharitar Construction Services First Division 50 over knock-out cricket competition in Berbice got going on Saturday last with three matches that saw Young Warriors, Edinburg and West Berbice advancing to the second round.
Highlighting the round was the outstanding batting performance of former West Indies Under-19 batsman Gajanand Singh who in his first match for his old club Young Warriors, since indicating his recommitment to Berbice cricket after playing in Demerara for a number of years, slammed the first century of this year’s competition, 107 not out to steer Young Warriors to 233 for 7 against Port Mourant Karibee Rice.
Berbice Under-19 off spinner Boughnarine Persaud took 4 for 24 from 10 overs for Port Mourant. Singh, who last represented Guyana at the senior level in 2011 slammed 10 fours and one six in his knock. Warriors went on to win by 92 runs.
Leg spinner Shafeek Khan snared 4 for 7 from 3.4 overs for Edinburg when they bowled out debutants Bush Lot United Rising Star for 140. Khan came back with the bat to muster 38, Edinburg won by 7 wickets.
Former Berbice off spinner Kreshnedat Ramoo collected 4 for 10 from his 10 overs for West Berbice to engineer Bermine’s demise for 147. West Berbice went on to win by 4 wickets.

At Port Mourant – Young Warriors defeated Port Mourant Karibee Rice by 92 runs. Young Warriors, invited to bat after losing the toss made 233 for 7 in 50 overs; Gajanand Singh 107*, Richard Ramdeen 40, Seon Hetmyer 29, Shimron Hetmyer 20.
Bowling for Port Mourant, Boughnarine Persaud took 4 for 24. Port Mourant Karibee Rice 141 in 41.2 overs; Boughnarine Persaud 32, Mahendra Veerasammy 31 and Chandrashekar Arjune 23. Bowling for Young Warriors, Balram Samaroo 3 for 35 from 9.2 overs, Berbice Under-19 off spinner Kevin Ramdeen 2 for 30 from 10 overs and Vishal Mohabir 2 for 18 from 5 overs.
At Edinburg – Edinburg hammered Bush Lot United Rising Star by 7 wickets. Bush Lot United Rising Star batting first after being invited to made 140 in 38 overs; Keno Gravesande led with 38. Shafeek Khan had figures of 4 for 7 and off spinner Raid Ali 3 for 13 from 8 overs for Edinburg which reached 141 for 3 in 27.1 overs; Shafeek Khan 38 and Chris Yadram 24 were the top scorers.
At Bush Lot, West Berbice – West Berbice got past Bermine by 4 wickets. Bermine winning the toss and choosing to take first strike were bowled out for 146 in 46.4 overs; Joemal LaFleur 28, Stephen Latcha 22.
Krishnedat Ramoo had 4 for 28, pacer Ron Johnson 3 for 28 from 9.4 overs and off spinner, Steffon Adams 2 for 12 from 10 overs were the main wicket takers for West Berbice which reached 148 for 5 in 39.2 overs; Sherwin McPherson led with 35 and Krishnedat Ramoo 23. The main wicket taker for West Berbice was Eugene LaFleur with 2 for 9 from 7 overs.
