In their first round match they overcame Tracy Deen/Jesus Cduardo 6-1 and then in their second round encounter defeated Alicia DeAbreu/Curlis James 6-2.
Their third match was against favorites Seweon McGarrell/Stephen Bailey in what was the match of the Novice tournament so far as they complimented each other well with Joyce being dominant at the net as they took a 5-1 lead. McGarrell and Bailey battled back gamely to close the gap to 5-4 before Joyce served out the set.
The Russian pair of Victor Demchenko/Laziz Mardonov staged a remarkable recovery as they came back from down 5-3 and two match points against Ryan Cumberbatch/Anthony Sookram to complete a 7-5 win after Cumberbatch/Sookram had dominated the early part of the game.
