Action in the Stag Beer sponsored East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) Division One League continued this past weekend with three matches at the Buxton Community Centre Ground.
Recording wins were Victoria Kings which ran out 4-1 winners over Ann’s Grove United; Mahaica were winners via the walk over route from Plaisance which failed to show up, while Buxton United disposed of Golden Grove 3-0.
Victoria Kings, once a formidable unit on the East Coast, are earnestly seeking to return to those glory days and with the win over Ann’s Grove, have taken over the lead with 13 points after six matches, one point ahead of BV Triumph United (5 matches).
Aubrey Gibson blasted a hat-trick for the Kings hitting the network in the 20th, 35th and 41st minutes. Scoring in the 28th minute for the Kings was Royan Morrison. An improved performance by Ann’s Grove kept the Kings at bay for the entire half.
Some form of consolation came Ann’s Grove’s way when C. Jerrick pulled one back in the 65th minute.
Sunday should have seen a double header card but only one game was played owing to the no show of Plaisance for their clash with Mahaica Determinators.
In the lone match-up, home team Buxton United eased their way to a comfortable 3-0 win over Golden Grove compliments of a Jamaal Booker brace (3, 56), Colwin Barnwell tucked in the other in the 41st minute.
First round matches in the two-round League will continue this weekend.
