Ansa McAl Limited is urging teams that are still to register for the upcoming Mackeson Smooth Moves 3-on-3 Basketball Challenge to do so as soon as possible so that the registration forms are processed ahead of next Saturday’s commencement of the tournament.
Public Relations Officer of Ansa McAl, Darshanie Yussuf, told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the company wants to give every team the chance at winning the whooping $1M winner-take-all top prize that will be up for grabs in the mammoth competition.
“We don’t want any team to be left out, so we are urging the teams to register so that we can get as much participants into the competition,” Yussuf said when contacted, adding that registration forms are still available at special Mackeson outlets across Guyana.
Locations for registration also include barbershops, supermarkets and Ansa McAl Headquarters at Beterverwagting on the East Coast of Demerara. Registration locations will be published and announced on Mackeson-sponsored radio and television programmes.
With six Mackeson caps and the registration form being the entry criteria, teams comprising four players will have a chance to cash in on the $1M prize.
The games will be played for 15 minutes: 7½ minutes per half–with a 30-second timeout in each half of the game.
Large crowds were drawn to the inaugural tournament that hosted preliminary games as far as in Bartica and New Amsterdam last year.
Ansa McAl is hoping that the second edition will be a lot bigger and community-oriented when it bounces off next weekend.
The rules of the tournament will be reinforced. No player must be under 18 years. If any of the competing teams are found to be in breach of the rules penalties that amount to a disqualification from the tournament will be a likely result.
The 3-on-3 format is an established International Basketball Federation (FIBA) format. The rules for the format include the fact that each basket from beyond the arc (three-point line) will usually count as two points while other buckets count as one point.
The first team to reach 21 points will before the 15-minutes time expires will be declared the winner.
