DeSinco Trading, through its Degree line of deodorants, has renewed its alliance with the sport of cycling by exclusively sponsoring an 11-race programme billed for September 15 at the inner circuit of the National Park.
At a simple presentation ceremony at the company’s office on Sheriff Street, Brand Manager of Unilever products, Rudy Jairam, presented a cheque to national cycling coach and organiser of the day’s activities, Hassan Mohamed, to offset expenses for the event.
According to Jairam, Degree Adrenaline Series Under-arm Deodorant is a brand that falls under the Unilever line, and his company is pleased to partner under this brand for the 12th year with Mohamed to stage the race.
He said DeSinco Trading is happy to be of assistance, as this provides them with an avenue to fulfill their role as a good corporate citizen. “We are also pledging to continue our sponsorship, not only to cycling, but other sports as well,” Jairam declared.
Mohamed expressed gratitude to the management and staff of DeSinco Trading for once again coming on board, noting that sponsorship is vital to the growth and development of cycling, and sports in general.
Several of the country’s top riders participated in the annual Bigi Bergi Four-Stage cycle meet in Suriname last weekend, but according to Mohamed, they will all be available to compete on September 15.
“So you can expect a very competitive race, because we will have a full pack of riders available to ride,” he said. Mohamed added this race will also serve as a warm-up for the sixth annual Five-Stage race that is billed for October 10-14 across the three counties of Guyana.
Meanwhile, Lindener Mark Lewis is set to defend his title at the DeSinco race, having won the feature 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race last year. He clocked one hour, 17 minutes, 31.54 seconds (01h: 17m: 31.54s), leaving fellow Lindener Orville Hinds, Raymond Newton, Rastaff O’Selmo, Michael Anthony and Junior Niles to follow in that order.
Other winners at last year’s race were Silvio Inniss, Raymond Newton, Kirkwood Kellman, Maurice Fagundes, Kester Croal, Michael Anthony, Jamal Arthur, Adrian Sharma and Hamza Eastman.
Representatives of DeSinco Trading are expected to assist in the presentation of prizes at the conclusion of the races later this month.
